Hydrangeas Pruning
TIPS
- In general, to prune hydrangeas it is best to wait until the end of winter and when there is no frost.
- Cut the old branches, they are the most woody, they are usually in the center of the hydrangea.
- Cut young branches up to half their length, they are about 3 years old.
- Don´t cut the suckers, they are the youngest branches, their stem usually starts from the base of the plant.
The hydrangea is a plant that requires little care and proper pruning will reward you with its exuberant flowering from spring to well into autumn. We like them so much that in our vacation rental houses in Galicia there are always vases with hydrangeas scattered throughout the house. All of these are from A Casa da Chavella garden.
And every season at the VILANOVAA store in Carballo we have a selection of our
favorite hydrangeas.
We will be happy to advise you on any questions about your care!
